An investigation is underway after a Freshwater man was arrested and suspected drugs were found following a traffic stop in Newport last night (Saturday). Officers carrying out a patrol were made aware of a vehicle of interest travelling towards Newport at around 22:00. Having located the vehicle, they attempted to engage with the driver at the entrance to Seaclose, however when he stopped the car he tried to run away before being located at Medina Quay. Under section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 a search of the vehicle he had been travelling in – a Mercedes – was carried out and suspected Class A drugs were found.
The man, a 28-year-old from Freshwater was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drugs, drug driving, and possession of a controlled drug of Class A. He has since been released from Police custody but remains under investigation whilst enquiries continue.

Bang up all drink or drug drivers.
No IQ test or studying needed to get a drivers license, he may have just been slow in the head.
Courts, due to our prisons being filled with the worlds flotsam and dross can now, never ever again give effective sentences to anything but the very worst in our society.
We seriously need to remove the illegals and control legal arrivals with work only visas as we used to do.
Any excuse, as usual, to bring up immigration when the article is completely unrelated.
Okay, here we go again, dimwit.
The prison population is directly proportionate to the general population. 80% white, 20% other. No ethnicity is more or less likely to commit crime.
Prisons have categories. Minor drugs offences do not take up space needed for rapist and murderers. Minor offences have grown because a) less policing due to cuts, b) poverty.
The illegal immigrants cannot easily be sent back because of Brexit. They come because of Brexit too. They are illegal on entry largely because of trafficking and therefore eligible for asylum.
Legal arrivals are on work visas and always have been (non EU). NONE can afford to be here unless they earn £38k a year. Damn sight more than you, I suspect.
I don’t know why yjis country doesn’t bring in the zero tolerance ruling of, if you’ve been caught drunk driving ot drug driving or both, the vehicle you are committing the offence is AUTOMATICALY crushed and destroyed. Then give them a heaven fine just to make their day.
Not a bad idea, but would need an act of Parliament. Can you see them voting for anything that might also impact them?
We say bang up all the elderly drivers
Bang up the elderly drivers
If getting elderly drivers pregnant is your thing, then who am I to judge…..
There too busy shitting themselves for that
