Officers from Hampshire Constabulary are today investigating a series of attempted burglaries in the Sandown and Shanklin areas.
Shortly before midnight last night (Monday), witnesses reported seeing would-be burglars attempting to gain unlawful access to a flat in Sandown High Street. Police raced to the scene before carrying out a search of the area and gathering evidence from the scene. Thankfully, the suspects did not gain access to the flat.
Around an hour later, thieves attempted to steal a motorcycle from outside another property in the town. Island Echo understands two suspects were apprehended by the owner of the vehicle, however they managed to escape leaving the motorcycle behind.
Hampshire Constabulary’s Dog Support Unit attempted to trace a scent and locate the suspects, however the scent was lost near to Los Altos Park.
Police believe the first incident could be linked to a similar incident in nearby Shanklin, when someone smashed a window to a property in Regent Street just after 03:00 this morning. One person was seen nearby wearing a blue hooded top.
Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact CID at Newport Police Station by phoning 101.
