A drink and drug driver from Cowes who crashed a car he did not have a licence to drive was on his way to get some shopping, a court has heard. 38-year-old Lee Williams, of Rew Street in Cowes, pleaded guilty to drink driving, drug driving, driving without insurance, driving without a licence and aggravated vehicle taking in connection with an incident that took place earlier this year when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court this morning (Friday). As previously reported by Island Echo, Police, fire and paramedic crews were called to Whiterails Road near Wootton on the afternoon of 29th April. At the scene, a grey Mazda 3 – which had been seen being driven at speed – had crashed into a bank causing significant front-end damage to the motor. The force of the impact was so great that the front wheels of the Japanese hatchback were completely bent and the engine was ripped from its mounting, ending up some metres away from the car. Roadside drug and breath tests were conducted at the scene by officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary with both returning above-limit readings. Williams was subsequently arrested and taken into custody to provide evidential tests. The court heard how Williams – who had been asked by his partner to go and get some shopping, despite not having a driving licence – had taken the Mazda from their home address. Due to having no licence, Williams was also driving the car without any insurance. Defending, Barry Arnett said that his client had been having a few personal issues at the time and that he got into the car to ‘clear his head’. He added that Williams is working with inclusion as a functioning alcoholic and that this was the ‘jolt to the system’ he needed. Williams – who has 1 previous conviction for driving with excess alcohol – was very lucky to walk away from the smash with minor injuries. The case has been adjourned until 15th December to allow for a pre-sentence report to be compiled. Williams has been granted unconditional bail until that time and has been made subject to an interim driving ban.

Another useless scum..
Jesus. That could have been so much worse, not for the idiot driver, but for some poor innocent person in the wrong place at the wrong time. I hope this moron is jailed.
What a great shame Airbags and seat belts are fitted to some dregs cars like this cretin.
Now the world, likely including any scattered clones it has sired, would be so much better off without this vile influence, who cares nothing and will never care about anything but itself.
These scum are always ‘turning their lives around’ yet as we and surely the courts know, just an excuse to hope AND get a lesser tap, instead of a slap on the wrist.
IF it were killed, or brain damaged then although it would still cost for a benefit paid funeral, or forever NHS treatment, it would STILL work out cheaper and better for all in the long run, as it will fill the Island with more rubbish to ruin the next generation of decent people’s lives.
Oh, it’s ok, he was having a few personal issues, if he gets in contact with me I’ll buy him a new car and a house and gift him some money, poor little blighter having personal issues, nobody has ever had those before…
Ban him for life and chuck him in gaol, and someone should sack Mr “better call Saul“ there’s no defence for drink driving I do not understand why he continues to support these people and come up with pathetic excuses for them to try and get a softer sentence.
Personal issues, unbelievable.
This dopey fu*ker could have killed innocent people. He should have been chucked in jail for a year. And let’s not forget his stupid partner who told him to go and get some shopping knowing full well all the reasons why he should never have got into that car.
Where did he get their car? Somebody else needs to be in trouble over this.
Understandable, no decent shops in Cowes
Only 1 place for selfish B’stards
Prison
There are no and never will be any excuses for drink or drug
Drivers.
Bang him up.
Banned when didn’t have a license anyhow? ” was very lucky to walk away from the smash with minor injuries” who cares he could of killed another person, child or whole family. It’s his second conviction, wonder just how many other times been driving and got away with?.
He’s been driving like this for years now and happily boasts about it he will never get help for drink and drug’s because don’t believe he has a issue his surname is Johnson funny how he’s using Williams for court it was only back in February he rolled a car at Knighton and got his at the time pregnant misses to take the blame after leaving the pointers pub he a massive danger to other road users
unless he has changed his name by deed poll how can he use the name williams in court when it is actually johnson?
The rest of gmhis family are Williams but he’s a Johnson he’s used the name so people don’t know who he is he is a total scumbag his mums name is Nelly
He has been having a few personal issues? doesn’t alter the fact he was under the influence of both drugs and drink whilst driving with no licence, or insurance.
What about Knighton in February ?
Someone who doesn’t have a licence to drive has been banned from driving. What??
Much jail time needed as a deterent and fitting punishment.Multiple deaths could have occurred.
I wonder if the roadside wipe dissolved when they took it? Idiot!
Yet another candegate for a pink boiler suite.
