An inquest into the death of a 70-year-old woman who was found in the sea at Shanklin last year was opened earlier this week.
The body of retired office manager Pauline Chaney – known as Paulene – was found in the water by Police and HM Coastguard on the morning of Sunday 8th September, as previously reported by Island Echo.
At the official inquest opening held at the Isle of Wight Coroners’ Court on 11th February, those present heard how earlier that morning Mrs Chaney left her Shanklin home without telling her husband and without taking their dog.
Her body was later found at Shanklin, with video footage partially capturing the events that led to her death.
The cause of death has been recorded as drowning.
HM Senior Coroner Caroline Sumeray provisionally adjourned the inquest until 11th August.
