A woman in her 70s, whose disappearance was the subject of an extensive multi-agency search back in 2023, died as a result of multiple injuries, an inquest has heard.
It was on the 28th March 2023, that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary issued a missing persons appeal for 77-year-old Celia Georgina Vosper who went missing in the West Wight area.
Celia, a retired chemist assistant, was born on the Island in 1945 and lived in Freshwater.
Resources from Police, HM Coastguard, WightSAR and Yarmouth RNLI were all involved in the search for Celia, battling adverse weather conditions overnight.
Sadly, a day after her disappearance, Celia’s body was discovered at The Needles.
During a private in-writing inquest held at the Isle of Wight Coroner’s Court on 23rd October, HM Senior Coroner Caroline Sumeray concluded that Celia took her own life. It is understood that Celia had a long history of mental health issues with worsening depression and anxiety.
