An injured sailor has been taken to Ryde Pier by Calshot RNLI this evening (Saturday) following a collision between two boats on the Solent.
Calshot’s inshore lifeboat and D-class lifeboat came to the aid of the male casualty to the north of Ryde Pier at around 16:50, after it was reported to Solent Coastguard that the man had become injured whilst taking part in today’s Round the Island Race.
The man, thought to be in his 50s, has been conveyed to Ryde Pier Head by Calshot RNLI and met by Coastguard Officers from Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team, and paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service who are treating the casualty for what is thought to be a dislocation.
Emergency teams are now standing down from the incident.
Meanwhile the independent Ryde Inshore Rescue are towing a 39ft yacht with steering difficulties towards Cowes, where they are due to pass the tow over to Cowes RNLI.
The Island’s independent and RNLI lifeboats have been kept busy today following an incident involving a dismasted yacht off Bembridge and another yacht with rudder issues off Ventnor.
