As the new football season gets underway, Hovertravel is continuing to support Portsmouth FC supporters living on the Isle of Wight with special late-night charter services following selected evening home matches at Fratton Park.
The late-night charters have been arranged in conjunction with the Isle of Wight Pompey Supporters Club, helping Island-based supporters attend evening home matches while having a convenient way to travel home after the final whistle.
The service has been designed specifically for Island-based Pompey fans who want to watch the full match without having to worry about missing the final whistle or finding a way home across the Solent.
For selected late home fixtures, Hovertravel operates a dedicated coach from Fratton Park directly to its Southsea terminal, where a late-night hovercraft provides the onward journey to Ryde.
The coach transfer removes the need for supporters to make their own way across Portsmouth after the match, providing a simple connection between the stadium and the hovercraft terminal.
Julie Horrocks, Head of Sales & Business Development at Hovertravel, said:
“We know there is a huge amount of support for Pompey on the Isle of Wight, and we want Island fans to be able to enjoy the full match experience at Fratton Park without having to worry about how they will get home afterwards.
“Working with the Isle of Wight Pompey Supporters Club, we have arranged these late-night charters to make it as easy as possible for supporters to travel to evening home games and return to the Island afterwards. Our dedicated coach from the stadium connects directly with the late-night hovercraft from Southsea, making the journey home straightforward and convenient.”
The charter coach departs from Fratton Park on Goldsmith Avenue after the final whistle and takes supporters directly to Hovertravel’s Southsea terminal. From there, the late-night hovercraft crosses the Solent to Ryde. For the current advertised late home game charter, the itinerary includes a 22:00 coach departure from Fratton Park followed by a 22:15 hovercraft departure from Southsea.
Importantly for football fans, Hovertravel also has a late penalties guarantee. If a match goes to a penalty shoot-out, the coach and hovercraft will be delayed to allow supporters to watch the conclusion of the game before beginning their journey home.
Alongside the late-night charters, Hovertravel has also confirmed the return of its Match Day Flyer for the 2026/27 season. The product provides Pompey supporters with a dedicated fare for travelling between the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth on match days, making it easier and more affordable for Island fans to attend home fixtures.
The Match Day Flyer is available for Portsmouth FC home match days throughout the 2026/27 season, subject to the terms and conditions of the offer. Julie added:
“We are also pleased to confirm that our Match Day Flyer will return for the 2026/27 season. Together with the late-night charters, it gives Island Pompey supporters more choice when planning their journeys to Fratton Park, whether they are travelling for an afternoon fixture or one of the later evening games.”
Island supporters can find the latest match dates, late-night charter information and details of the Match Day Flyer on the Hovertravel website.
