Vectis RFC enjoyed a packed weekend with touring visitors, mainland festival success and a historic milestone as the club’s Under-12 girls played their first tournament.
Saturday saw touring visitors arrive on the Island before several Vectis teams crossed the Solent for the Havant Festival on Sunday. The Under-13s hosted Trojans at Sandown & Shanklin RFC.
WEYBRIDGE VANDALS VISIT
Weybridge Vandals returned to the Island for a day of friendly fixtures from Under-7s to Under-11s, showcasing competitive rugby and strong club friendships.
The Under-11 match was a highlight as Vectis defended strongly against early pressure. Bjorn produced several try-saving tackles before Ashton powered over the line carrying multiple defenders.
The session ended with a mixed game featuring players from both clubs. Coaches and parents also played a lively touch match, won by Vectis.
UNDER-8S
The Under-8s travelled to the Havant Festival on the FastCat, producing strong teamwork and impressive defensive line speed throughout the day.
Tim’s red team played four matches while Chris’s blue team played five.
Soren and Arthur impressed with quick footwork in attack. Arthur also set up a teammate for their first try. Harry, Henry and Phoenix maintained good width, while Rudy enjoyed an excellent festival debut.
UNDER-9S
The Under-9s hosted touring opposition on Saturday before focusing on skills and spatial awareness during a training session on Sunday.
Players took part in activities including “Rugby Golf” and “Powerball”.
Both sessions helped develop awareness and movement across the pitch. Coaches praised the players’ enthusiasm and teamwork.
UNDER-10S
The Under-10s delivered one of the weekend’s best performances, winning 7 of 9 matches at the Havant Festival.
Vectis recorded seven wins, one draw and one defeat across two squads, with all 19 players scoring.
A thrilling 5-5 draw with Winchester drew praise from opposition coaches. Maddox impressed for Team A while Xander delivered a powerful performance for Team B.
UNDER-11S
The Under-11s battled muddy conditions at Havant while facing strong mainland opposition.
Vectis finished with two draws, one win and one defeat against Winchester, Romsey, Havant, Chichester and Fareham.
Ashton was named Man of the Match. Bjorn, Frank and Xavy also made strong contributions.
UNDER-12 BOYS
The Under-12 boys produced strong defensive displays, recording three shut-out victories during the festival.
Vectis defeated Petersfield (2-0), Trojans B (3-0) and Portsmouth (3-0). Their only defeat was a narrow 2-0 loss to Havant B.
Jack and Henry worked hard in the second row while Isaac impressed at the breakdown. Will scored twice, with Albert, Joe and Brodie also performing well.
UNDER-12 GIRLS MAKE HISTORY
Vectis RFC’s Under-12 girls marked International Women’s Day by competing in their first ever competitive festival.
The team won two of three matches against Petersfield, Romsey and Havant, scoring 18 tries.
Flic scored four tries and was named Players’ Player. Captain Aitana led well, Alba impressed with strong running and Lidia earned Player of the Day.
UNDER-13S
The Under-13s produced a superb comeback victory against Trojans at Sandown & Shanklin RFC.
Vectis trailed 6-4 at half-time despite two long-range tries from Thomas.
Wyatt and Man of the Match Jackson helped change the momentum after the break. Gus scored twice, Thomas completed his hat-trick and Jasper sealed a 9-6 victory.
