The Isle of Wight Festival will return as planned in September following confirmation that COVID restrictions are set to be lifted on 19th July.
With face masks and social distancing scrapped and mass gatherings once again permitted under law, festival boss John Giddings has taken to Twitter to reaffirm that the event will go ahead in 2021 – albeit at the later date of 16-19th September.
Around 50,000 revellers will lap up live music, DJs, theatre, cabaret, film, bars and so much more on an array of colourful stages across the enormous site. Headlining the bash are Liam Gallagher, Snow Patrol, David Guetta and Duran Duran with special guest Sir Tom Jones.
Last month Island Echo reported that the event was already close to selling out. You can buy your tickets now – including the Island special – by visiting https://www.thepriceiswight.co.uk/product/iow-festival-full-payment-21/.
The Government has said it hopes to have all over 18s vaccinated by mid-September.

Cool. A decent super spreader event just for the Island. Nice.
Bring it on…..we can handle it !
Can’t wait. Should be good!
Make the most of it.
Gives you a chance to recall the great time you had at the festival while you are struggling to breathe and waiting outside A&E at a totally overrun hospital in a few weeks time.
I’ll take my chances, thanks!
Well it has never been like that so I am not sure where your overacting paranoia information has come from. Around 85 festivals are between now and September, some big ones too With Reading and Leeds. Let’s see what happens with the millions or so people attending those festivals before you shine up your tin foil hat.
I doubt it though
There will be a lot of violent incidents at this festival, personal preference is the new buzz phrase. So those who want to be safe will wear masks and want there own personal space preserved ( which is right even without Covid ) and there will be those who will just not give a monkeys. So there will be clashes at the festival, on buses, in shops and on the streets. Oh well, Late September will be a septic pot of new variant covid outbreaks countrywide.
Maybe the powers that be have all got together and come up with a way to always keep the lawyers in business. More arrests for arguments among the disagreeing public means more court cases, so keeping the bigwigs earning their dosh.
Oh and not to mention the health problems caused by all the stress of trying to cope with too much noise and too many people everywhere, which then helps to keep Big Pharma in business. Money protects money. Just think about it, see how society works, everyone try to see the bigger picture and you will see, if you allow yourself to.
Those that want to feel safe won’t go, it’s as simple as that. They also won’t be travelling on public transport or going to shops. I’ll take my chance.
Stupid remark. People have to go out to get provisions. Not everyone has someone else to do things for them or to shop online.
Giddings will be announcing that due to the lifting of restrictions 50,000 additional tickets will be going on sale next week!
We know that variants are now possible, and we know that not all variants will be stopped by a vaccine – so I’m not confident the government is playing it safe allowing mass gatherings.
Of course I hope these vaccines somehow work for every new variant, but that’s just not possible.
What would be good is pursuing tracking, so we can have a rough idea of how many came in without infection on Friday and how many have it when they leave.
