A Whitwell man has been fined £576 for sending a barrage of offensive messages via Whatsapp and Snapchat to his ex-partner.
Samuel Dyer, 30, of High Street in Whitwell appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court last Friday (2nd June) and pleaded guilty to send by public communication network and offensive matter and possession of an offensive weapon in a private place.
Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that between 1st September 2022 and 15th February 2023 Dyer sent messages of an offensive nature to his ex-partner. The messages were sent from WhatsApp as well as on popular messaging app Snapchat.
Some of the messages – which were read aloud in the courtroom – included things like ‘stop lying to my kids’, ‘start telling them the truth’ and ‘sign the papers so I can finally get rid of you’.
On 10th January 2023, Officers visited Dyer’s address and seized a telescopic truncheon from his possession – for which there was no separate penalty in court. Bail conditions were imposed on Dyer following the visit and his subsequent arrest.
Defending, Amy Hosell said that Dyer had been in a relationship with the woman for a total of 12 years and that things ended badly, adding that at the time Dyer went into ‘self destruct mode’.
Magistrates handed Dyer a £576 fine. He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge fee of £230.
so, she takes him to court, yet one of the messages says…
‘sign the papers so I can finally get rid of you
why didn’t she sign the papers, then she wouldn’t have heard from him again – sounds to me like she actively encouraged these messages by being obstinate and awkward and then complained about him

Maybe there was no papers to sign maybe you shouldn’t comment if you know nothing about it, maybe there’s more to the story than it says maybe he shouldn’t of been so nasty to her and abuse her
I think the clue is in the wording “sign the papers” – clearly there were papers to sign and the bloke wanted her to sign and then she wouldn’t have heard from him again – he made it clear that he wanted rid of her – looks like she didn’t want to be gone and just kept hanging around, without taking the hint.

and you think for one second that she is an angelic example of virtue and innocence do you – that bloke made it plainly clear he wanted to be free of her – she clearly ignored him and continued to impose herself in to his life, where it wasn’t wanted.
he may have sent messages, but I bet she said loads in person or on the phone, or through friends, where there is no written record.
history is littered with examples of women lying to the kids to make the father look bad and turn them against him as well.

Well I know the situation and messages where sent back and forward from them both however she had deleted what she needed to and only showed the police his!!
Maybe if she didn’t have dangerous people around there children then he wouldn’t have told her to stop lying to the kids and maybe if she actually signed the divorce papers which he has been trying to do for months then he wouldn’t have to keep asking!!
In an investigation details matter and this is why the case was dropped!!
Honestly if you ‘know the details’ then you really wouldn’t be speaking up on his behalf, the things he did are disgusting and he should be getting a lot worse than a fine!! These few messages and nothing in comparison

I agree with you totally, she didn’t deserve anything like this she is a lovely lady and I know she never replied to him she put up with so much and her partner they both suffered his abuse its so sad she’s a strong lady and she deserves the world one of the kindest people I’ve met

Details matter…. Should we air them all for everyone to see? I really don’t think he would want that now would he…. These few select messages are nothing compared to everything else he did. Shall we put that up for debate??

And for everyones information no messages were deleted every message was logged and and screenshots taken so leave this poor women alone who has had such a hard time!! Everyone on here that is taking his side are wrong and are just as bad

you got proof of that – have you reported it, where is the media reports of his prior convictions for coercive behaviour, violence towards women and being an abuser?
if there aren’t any, then you are putting yourself at risk of being charged with libel, if the person reads your comment and chooses to report.
This case is honestly a load of rubbish. I bet poor bloke has been through the ringer with all this, all he wanted was the divorce papers singed. This article definitely leaves a load of crucial information out it seems. Does it mention anything about the so called “victim” of abuse’ behaviour? Or the people she gets involved with? Well you can say whatever but the facts are that he isn’t up for any of those charges, and the charges for the messaging are now finalised with whatever decision the courts decided, you however should be careful what you say as everything your saying about him is slander and if he reads these you could find yourself in the same situation as he was in if he decided to report you for it.
Wow this is hardly breaking news is it, woppie he sent some offensive messages maybe she deserved what was said to her, people jumping on the band wagon that he’s an abuser, manipulator and women beater, I’m pretty sure reading it he wasn’t charged for any of that, by the looks of things he was looking out for his children’s best interests and trying to get rid of her which in mine and probably other people’s opinion on reading these comments would see that all he cares about is his children and being free from her, he’s probably happy in a new relationship and she doesn’t like it that he’s moving on with his life without her in it

Island full of wife beaters, child molesters, thieves, rapists, thugs, drug dealers, etc., who all get away with their crimes because “the police lack the resources to prosecute” but send some written messages and you are in bother as the police can get an easy prosecution.

Oh wow if I had known this I could of had my ex fined, he was disgusting in the relationship and after. Married 5 times so that should have blared the alarm bells but we live and learn,wouldn’t give him the time of day.
I think he has clearly got issues and is a controlling person he tried to split her up with someone she fell in love with after they’d been broken up over a year and he didn’t leave either of them alone they hoth suffered his abuse and yet they stayed strong together through it. He lost her by cheating and she wanted to move on like she should she’s innocent in this he just got jealous.
