A Cowes man has been fined £415 after he was found to be driving with an illegal level of cannabis in his system.
Jamin Woodmore, 30, of Newport Road in Cowes, pleaded guilty to drug driving in April this year when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Tuesday 15th August).
Prosecutor Lauren Stone told the court that on the evening of 20th April, at around 19:15, officers were on patrol on Newport Road in Cowes when they noticed Woodmore driving his Peugeot 207 and decided to pull him over.
Whilst speaking to the 30-year-old officers noticed a strong smell of cannabis in both the vehicle and on Woodmore himself.
A roadside drugs wipe returned a positive result for cannabis, whilst a further evidential test at Newport Police Station returned a reading of 9.0ug/l – the legal limit is 2.0ug/l.
Defending, Barry Arnett said that had Woodmore known he was going to be over the limit he wouldn’t have chosen to drive, adding that the 30-year-old – who works as a chef – will no longer be able to drive to work.
Woodmore was last in court back in 2022 where he appeared before Magistrates for a drug possession offence.
Magistrates handed Woodmore a 12-month driving ban. He was fined £415 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £166 surcharge fee.

Drink and Drug driving = immediate imprisonment.
Not a feeble fine
£415 is not a hefty fine, and if he knew he was he wouldn’t have driven , shouldn’t drive with any level of drugs or alcohol just don’t do it
Drink and Drug drivers should be banged up.
Fines are not even keeping up with inflation. Sadly the prisons are full so probably not an option , can however give suspended jail sentences which may deter some in future. The car should be impounded for a term at the cost of the owner too as an additional deterrent.
These idiots put others lives at risk.
What is that name, though? Bob Marley song?!! Poor lad never had a chance…
How does he like his doughnuts?
