It was 10 years ago today – 17th January 2013 – that snow started to fall across the Isle of Wight, which soon became the Isle of White as heavy snowfall created a blanket across towns and villages.
Families took to their sledges to enjoy the white stuff, the first significant snowfall in 3 years.
Island Echo took to the streets of Ryde to capture the action, documenting the hard work of Royal Mail posties and Southern Vectis bus drivers to keep the Island moving.
Over the past decade that has only been notable snow on 2 further occasions; March 2018 and January 2019.
Unsure what has happened, but we haven’t had reports of cars overturning for a few weeks now.
Perhaps the Earth’s magnetic field has increased or something?
