Wight Tri hosted the first of the winter series Duathlons – The East Cowes Enema – on Sunday (26th January).
There was healthy turn out of new Wight TrI members, who braved the gusty and freezing conditions. Organisers predicted the wind was going to wildly pick up and made the shout to start earlier to avoid a brutal assault on participants.
Starting at Venture Quays, members set off on either a short 2.2km or long 4.2km run, followed by 1 or 2 laps of a 10km bike leg. There was a battle between the 2 fastest men – Paul Martin was like Senna on 2 wheels and put in an excellent bike time of 37.07. However, hot on his rear on the 2nd run and fastest overall for the L2L course was Matt Burgess, who completed it in a speedy 1.18.03.
1st place in the nominated time was Lucy Doorly, who was 21 seconds off her predicted time.
The next event is Strawberry Pain (Brighstone) on Sunday, 9th February at 9.00am.
