A desperate appeal is being made to help locate Rose, a missing dog currently on holiday on the Isle of Wight, who has become lost in the Apse Heath and Lower Hyde areas.
Specialist search support is being provided by Drone SAR For Lost Dogs IOW, a volunteer-led team dedicated to locating and safely recovering lost and missing dogs across the Island.
Rose is a 15-year-old rescue dog and is described as extremely nervous and fearful of people. She will actively avoid human contact and will only approach her owner. While she may occasionally show interest in other dogs, she will run away immediately if a person approaches or even makes a movement towards her.
Due to her nature, members of the public are being strongly urged not to call, approach, or attempt to catch her, as this is likely to push her further away and significantly reduce the chances of bringing her to safety.
At this stage, specialist advice from Drone SAR For Lost Dogs IOW indicates that the safest and most effective way to secure Rose will likely be through the use of a humane trap, once her movements can be more accurately established.
Rose has only been sighted twice so far, both times crossing fields within the Apse Heath and Lower Hyde areas, making tracking her movements particularly challenging.
Search teams, including Drone SAR For Lost Dogs IOW, are working to gather information.
A search took place last night however Rose wasn’t located. Volunteers will be back out this evening Island Echo understands.
