The occupant of a popular family hatchback has escaped serious injury despite the vehicle coming to rest upside down in a stream off Middle Road this lunchtime (Sunday).
Emergency services were called to Newport Road, to the West of Tapnell, at just before midday following reports that a vehicle had left the road.
Police arrived on scene to find a silver Ford Focus on its roof in a ditch which carries water along the edge of the carriageway.
The car had left the road before smashing through a wooden fence and into the stream.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have checked over the male driver, but thankfully no serious injuries have been sustained.
The vehicle has already been privately recovered using a grab lorry.
Middle Road remains open as normal.

If it wasn’t trashed before, it is now.
A car on it’s roof on the Isle of Wight – it’s called parking isn’t it?
Could this have anything to do with all the mud that was on the road from the nearby field?
