Firefighters responded to a small fire in the bathroom of a property in East Cowes during the early hours of this morning (New Year’s Day).
3 appliances were mobilised to Adelaide Grove – near Minerva Road – at just gone 01:00.
A hose reel jet was used by firefighters to bring the situation on the ground floor under control, with a 2-man team entering the residential address wearing breathing apparatus.
Positive pressure ventilation was then used to rid lingering smoke from the building.
It’s understood an electrical fire broke out within the bathroom.
First aid was given to the elderly occupant.
The incident was brought to a close by 02:00, with at least 1 appliance re-mobilised to another incident in Ryde.
It proved to be a busy night for the Island’s fire crews with casualty care provided at the scene of a pedestrian collision in Sandown, and 2 people extricated as a result of a head-on crash in Bembridge.
