In bitterly cold conditions W&B Sports (Res) put in a solid performance to edge past a resilient St Helens BS (Res) on Saturday, a late goal from Ford Wilson separating the two side at the end of a hard fought ninety minutes.
Both teams pushed hard for the opening 45 minutes. Gav Dicker standing out for “The Saints” with numerous darting runs in front of box whilst W&B captain Justin Curling coming closest for the homeside. 0-0 at the break was a fair reflection of events on the park.
Although W&B started the second half in a more upbeat tempo they just couldnt break down an extremely dogged St Helens backline. End to end play was broken in the final minutes whenFord Wilson put away a Cassford corner.
In all fairness the homeside just about edged it. First teamer Wilson although having a quiet day still got his name on the scorecard again. Though St Helens should hold their heads high after a performance of this nature, these youngsters will only get better.
Saturday’s match Official was Mr Andy King, you can check out his performance on the”Referee Spotlight” page. In short an improved effort from one of the senior island match officials. Well done to you “Kinger”…. !!
That we were even at the game was a testament to the ground staff at W&B including Robbie Burns & Ginny Taylor alongside match-day groundsman Dave Grace. Major effort guys.
