An independent lifeboat became grounded on a sandbank in the Solent this evening (Thursday) while attending a rescue incident involving a stricken vessel on Ryde Sands.
Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service became stranded on sandbank while responding to the emergency.
Ventnor and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Teams were also tasked to the scene to assist with the incident.
Gosport Lifeboat was able to assist with their assigned tasking despite becoming stuck. The crew are now waiting for the tide to refloat their vessel.
A spokesperson for GAFIRS has said:
“In the line of duty today, whilst effecting a rescue on Ryde Sands of a stricken vessel, Gosport Lifeboat was caught on a sandbank. Fortunately the crew were able to assist with their tasking and are awaiting the tide to refloat them.
“Our lifeboats often have to operate in difficult locations during search and rescue situations, but that’s all part of the job of saving lives on The Solent!”
No injuries have been reported.
I’m assuming Ryde Inshore Rescue wasn’t available for this tasking? They would know their own patch better than a mainland rescue service?
