The future of the former Prezzo building in Newport has been revealed, as Loungers looks set to open the ‘Correo Lounge’ on Newport’s High Street.
It was back in February this year that Prezzo permanently closed its only Isle of Wight restaurant, with the building sitting empty since.
Now it has been confirmed that Loungers UK – a chain of 140+ bars across the UK – will be taking on the premises, which once housed Newport’s Post Office.
The new cafe/bar will be known as Correo Lounge and is expected to be neighbourhood orientated, combining elements of a restaurant, British pub and coffee shop culture.
A total of 25 jobs are expected to be created by the opening of Correo.
The nearest Lounges are currently in Southsea (Panero) or Southampton (Maritmo and Trago).
Good luck to a new owner , but can’t see it being successful as the limited turn round of people in Newport (city)
Some one suggested that it was Sir Alan Sugar who owns it? Anyone else heard such??
Will they get the custom on their business model, drinks and food on the more pricier side for iow, i.e £13 for burger, 8.50 ish for a average size breakfast… Wages on isle-of-wight don’t fit in. Special occasions place.
Should have turned it into flats.

If they wish to succeed they need something more than a coffee lounge inside, they need to think of another form of item to sell to the public as Newport has more than enough eateries and drinking places, be they beverages or alcoholic. Take a tip from the American coffee houses, most of them sell other items, be they homemade or made by locals. Let’s hope it is decorated in a “come in and look” fashion. Dull doesn’t attract people.
