UPDATED: An 18″ gas main has been ruptured in Apse Heath this evening (Tuesday) after a farmer attempted to pile a post into the ground.
Engineers from SGN are on site in a field just off the main Sandown-Newport road where the farmer has used a digger to pile a post into the ground but mistakenly hit a large gas main.
Residents in the Apse Heath and Winford areas have been visited by SGN representatives to warn them about the smell and the reduction in gas supply.
UPDATE @ 19:20 – Docklands Traffic Management have advised that by 21:00 tonight two-way traffic lights will be in force on the A3056 Arreton Road between Sandown and Newport.
Claire Buchanan of SGN said:
“We arrived quickly on site and will be working throughout the night. Our engineers have visited residents in the vicinity to keep them informed.
“We will do everything we can to make our repair as quickly as possible”.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY: Further information received has confirmed that a third party fencing company were undertaking the piling at the time of the incident.
