GARAGE FIRE IN SANDOWN EXTINGUISHED BY LOCAL CREWS

Firefighters have tackled a garage fire on a residential street in Sandown this afternoon (Saturday). 2 appliances from Sandown and Shanklin were mobilised to Avenue Nurseries off Fort Mews at just before 17:10 when smoke was seen issuing from a garage block. Crews have used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to contain and extinguish the fire, and dampen down the area. Charred materials – including furniture – have been removed from the garage. The cause of the blaze is unconfirmed, but concerns have been raised about possible suspicious circumstances.
