Around 500 adults and young people attended a free activity day hosted by the Isle of Wight Scouts at Corf Scout Campsite earlier this month, enjoying a packed programme of outdoor fun and hands-on experiences.
The annual open day saw visitors take part in a wide range of activities including archery, climbing, tomahawk throwing, shooting, canoeing, karting, paddleboarding, and bouldering. There were also craft sessions, fire lighting and marshmallow toasting, bird and wildlife spotting, sensory and adventure trails, and an iSpy trail around the site.
Music and creative opportunities were also available, with attendees able to try musical instruments, learn about the Isle of Wight’s Scouting heritage, and explore amateur radio with support from the Isle of Wight Amateur Radio Club.
Dave Simpson, County Lead Volunteer, has said:
“It was great to see so many people discover what Scouting and our Corf Campsite have to offer. Providing adventurous and exciting programmes of activity, especially outdoors, is such an important antidote to the stresses of life for both young people and our adult volunteers who gain so much through their volunteering.”
The success of the day was made possible thanks to the support of volunteer leaders and helpers, the Wight Diamonds Marching Band, Corf Farm, and all those who donated £5 to park or purchased refreshments. Proceeds are supporting both Corf Campsite and expeditions by 1st Newport and 1st Brighstone Scout Groups taking place later this year.
Owned by Isle of Wight Scouts since 1937, Corf Scout Campsite will celebrate its 90th anniversary in 2027. The site is run entirely by volunteers and is regularly used by Scouts, Guides, and other groups from across the UK and beyond. Maintenance and development are overseen by the Warden Team and Service Crew.
