YMCA Isle of Wight and Free Food in Sandown have partnered with Asda’s Community Champion to help ensure no child in The Bay area goes hungry this half term.
Families who need a little help this week are encouraged to collect free children’s packed lunches from YMCA Winchester House in Shanklin from Monday 26th to Friday 30th October between 11:00 and 14:30, or from Free Food in Sandown, Lake High Street from 14:30 until 16:30.
This scheme is open to any family in need and is not restricted to children who qualify for free school meals.
Emma Corina from YMCA said:
“The island community has made the decision that no child should go hungry this half term. With our schools’ residential centre in Shanklin still closed because of the coronavirus restrictions, the team decided to make use of our professional catering facilities to expand on the fantastic work that Free Food in Sandown already do.
Claire Jones, Asda’s Community Champion said:
“The Asda Foundation have given all Community Champions at Asda across the country an extra £250 in their monthly budget this month to specifically help feed children during half term in response to the Marcus Rashford Free School meals campaign.”

So, what are the parents spending the child benefit on, the income support on, the tax credits on then – as most are claiming universal credit, meaning the rent is paid and most, if not all the council tax, then they have money for food.
giving them the ability to avoid having to pay out to feed their own damned kids, will just ensure that they are able to confidently spunk another £30 a week benefit money on booze, fags and gear.
and the gullible mugs are happy to pay for this through increased taxes.
you had the kid – you pay for it.
Forget about the parents. This is to help children. Let’s help children, through NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN, are hungry.
Don’t take your nasty pent up cyber anger out on kids. It’s not a good look.
jon – i will not forget about the parents – they are the ones who created these kids and they are the ones responsible for putting food in the kids mouths or they starve. Those kids and those parents are not my responsibility and I am not willing to pay for their food, when they are already getting money hand over fist in the form of other benefits.
if the parents cannot be bothered to feed their kids, then the parents are happy to see the future generation of their lineage weak and likely to die out early – leaving the stronger to survive.
nature favours the stronger.
Nature – Regretfully children don’t choose their families.
We were all young once. By pure LUCK some of us grow up in safe warm stable homes. Some unfortunate kiddies, as we too often see, do not.
Thankfully charities and the local council have some humanity, clearly see the bigger picture and don’t punish the children by proxy.
On another note I hope the authors of some of the abhorrent comments on here don’t fall upon hard times. Were always only a couple of paypackets away from poverty!
no, jon – the parents should be arrested, jailed, sterilised and never allowed near their kids again, if they do not spend the child benefit on food for the kids.
quite simple…then we wont’ need to listen to virtue signallers and do gooders trying to spend other peoples money.
But you cant blame the children
Have a heart
Every time I hear this sponging cry i think same scare.taking the p.kids aren’t starving n if are its only cos parents are spending benefits on weed and themselves.free out of term grubs never been a thing has it so why now?cos it’s free and spongers love a freebie right.
Yea..your kids your choice too have them…YOU PAY FOR THEM.
Not anyone else’s job is it
no emma, the island community hasn’t made that decision – a handful of do gooders have, who are too blind to see that the parents are having you over on this.
They will likely be too lazy to collect it, will want it delivered then spoon fed to their clones, and want the plate washed up too soon.
Many on tax credits work a few hours per week and claim free rent, c.tax, around £100pw per child, then on TOP of that £20 pw child allowance. All get free NHS, free dental treatment, free education, a pension, more help for the disabled or mentally ill.
See them for what they are, spongers, give them nothing
well said steven –
these parasitic leeches have taken child benefit money from the government and spent it on booze/fags and sky tv, sent the kid to school to get a free meal, and then let the kid have a couple of slices of their pizza at half term.
bet the parents aren’t going hungry, sober or straight are they.
The Government shouldn’t keep allowing in more people into the UK if we can’t afford to pay enough benefits for our own people.
Perhaps those who do come here and have such huge families, often with many different ‘Muvers’ are the very reason we now have too many to feed, as they create in every land they choose to settle in. Can’t surely just be ‘coincidence’ can it?
We always managed to feed our children even in war time, so seems a massive coincidental since en masse i mmigration this had occurred.
IF so, NO Politician will dare say so. We all have to blame everything and anything but.
Think you should become mp you would get me vote
