Westridge Golf Centre has launched free monthly junior golf taster sessions to inspire young Islanders to try the sport, with the first event attracting 15 children.
Westridge Golf Centre hosted its first free junior taster session on Sunday 14th December, welcoming 15 children for an introduction to the game in a fun, relaxed and supportive environment.
All participants were provided with golf clubs and balls, before receiving expert tuition and guidance from Advanced PGA Professional Steven Davis, alongside PGA Trainee Harrison Lake. Organisers say the session was a great success and has already helped spark interest among several potential young golfers of the future.
The sessions are being run in conjunction with Mark and Veronica Goldstone of MG Scaffolding, who are sponsoring the initiative as part of a drive to encourage more young people on the Isle of Wight to take up the sport. As part of the launch event, MG Scaffolding also provided every child who attended with a free golf cap.
Following the success of the first session, Westridge Golf Centre has confirmed the free junior taster events will now take place every month.
The next session will be held on Saturday 17th January at 11:00, with all juniors welcome to attend, regardless of experience. Places can be booked by calling Westridge Golf Centre on 01983 613131.
In addition to the monthly tasters, the centre also runs weekly group coaching sessions for those wishing to develop their skills further and make golf a regular activity.
