A technical issue on board Red Osprey has forced the cancellation of a number of Red Funnel sailings to and from the Isle of Wight today (Tuesday).
The 09:30 sailing from East Cowes and the 11:00 return from Southampton were both pulled earlier on due to a problem with the forward main engine.
Now, the cross-Solent operator has confirmed that the 12:30 sailing from East Cowes has also been cancelled, alongside the 14:00 from Southampton.
The issue comes as people return home after the long Bank Holiday weekend.
It is unclear at this time if further cancellations will hit the East Cowes-Southampton ferry service today.
UPDATE @ 13:11 – Red Funnel has been unable to resolve the issue thus far, resulting in the 15:30 sailing from East Cowes now also cancelled.
UPDATE ON WEDNESDAY – Red Osprey is back in service with Red Funnel running to service.
Not surprised. Knackered third world vessels with knackered third world engines. Should have been replaced years ago but the fat cat top management and shareholders only care about their bank balances.
they arent third world vessels, they were built in Scotland at Ferguson shipyard, granted they were stretched and the upper car deck was added in Poland but apart from that they are uk built, as for the engines well engines sometimes have issues, you try getting a car that age to run on the cheapest quality fuel available for as many miles as they cover each year without breakdowns. gone are the good old days where engines were 95% hand built and controlled by cables and levers, now they are controlled by computers which are only as good as the programmer who usually is some desk bound person in an office with no windows and has absolutely zero idea of what conditions the computer is going to be controlling the engine under, it only takes a fleck of dirt to sit on the wrong bit of wire and it can create mayhem.
