The former leader of the Isle of Wight’s Conservative Party, Clare Mosdell, has resigned from the group.
Councillor Mosdell, who represents Newchurch, Havenstreet and Ashey ward, now sits as an independent councillor.
She has declined to comment on the matter.
She currently chairs the adult social care, public health and housing needs committee and served as the cabinet member for the portfolio under the council’s previous Conservative administration.
The Conservatives’ current group leader, Cllr Ed Blake, took over from Cllr Mosdell in February.
Although Cllr Mosdell has refused to comment on the matter, Cllr Blake has said:
“I would like to thank Clare Mosdell for all her hard work as a Conservative councillor and I continue to look forward to working with her.
“She announced some time ago that she would not be restanding at the next election. Clare remains a committed Conservative and does a fantastic job as chairman of the Shanklin, Ventnor and Wroxall branch of the Isle of Wight Conservative Association, raising funds and recruiting local members to help secure a Conservative win at the next set of elections.

There are now 13 Conservative county councillors, 12 members of the Alliance group, 4 Liberal Democrats, 3 Empowering Islanders, 3 independents, 2 from Reform UK, 1 Independent Socialist and a Labour councillor.

Ahhh mosdell,the person that ignored planning by building a stable block way over spec,got caught,instead of being told to demolish,she applied for retrospective planning,it got waved through,while someone on the island has done the same but told to demolish,one rule for us and one for crooked councillors!
People choose to be councillors for their own gain,
they don’t become councillors because they care
about anyone else.
Who needs them!, they are a blot on the landscape
and cost the country unnesseccary expenses.
Irrespective of which political parties are involved, I think it is wholly dishonest for anyone to stand for election on a particular ticket (in this instance Conservative) be elected at least in part by people who will have voted on the basis of the party they represent (and who will have given both financial and physical assistance during their election campaign) then switch sides. How can they possible claim to have a mandate from the electorate in their ward? The honourable and honest things to do would be to resign and restand in a by election on a different ticket. Is there no integrity left in our once great country?
