Several Police units were seen to respond to an area of The Esplanade at around 00:30 alongside the National Police Air Support Helicopter from Surrey, which circled in the skies above the town for over an hour.
An area of woodland near to a children’s play area, believed to be occupied by a homeless man, is at the center of the investigation. Evidence has been removed from the hidden area within the foliage and photographs of the scene have been taken.
Details of the incident are yet to be revealed by Hampshire Constabulary.
UPDATE @ 14:00 – Island Echo understands one male – believed to be a homeless gentleman living in the woodland – was seriously assaulted, sparking a Police investigation.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were also called to the scene at just before 00:30.
Police have now left East Cowes, however the investigation continues.
