UPDATED: The Environment Agency have issued a flood warning for areas surrounding the River Medina.
Residents in Cowes, East Cowes and Newport are urged to be prepared for the possibility for localised flooding especially near to the floating bridge in Cowes and Princes Esplanade in Cowes.
High tide is expected at around 01:00 tomorrow morning, however sea levels will begin to rise late this evening.
No property flooding is expected at Newport Harbour, but water levels will be high around the quay.
A flood alert has been issued for other coastal areas on the Island
UPDATE @ 16:55 – Island Roads have placed sandbags out at the following locations across the Island:
- The junction of Westhill Road and Easthill Road, Ryde
- The junction of Quay Street and Sea Street, Newport
- On the wall ofCounty Hall car park, Newport
- Medina Road, Cowes (adjacent to the Floating Bridge)
- Well Road, East Cowes
- Simeon Rec, Ryde
- St Mary’s car park, Cowes
UPDATE FRIDAY – Quay Arts in Newport has flooded overnight leading to the temporary closure of the café and galleries. Although no properties were expected to flood in Newport, the building is in very close proximity to the quay.
Firefighters were called to Cowes High Street when the road began to flood at around 3am this morning. Sandbags were distributed however, thankfully no further assistance was required from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
