A flood alert has been issued for the Isle of Wight coast, with high tides over the next two days expected to cause minor flooding in low-lying areas.
The Environment Agency has warned that flooding is possible for 1 hour either side of both Friday evening’s and Saturday morning’s tides.
On Friday 5th December, high tide is expected at 23:09, with a forecast tide of 4.72 metres Chart Datum at Cowes – equivalent to 2.13 metres above Ordnance Datum (mAOD). Conditions include a light south westerly Force 3 wind.
Saturday’s tide is due at 11:29 and is forecast to be 6cm higher, reaching 2.19 mAOD, with a slightly stronger south westerly Force 4 wind.
Very minor impact flooding is anticipated along some seafront roads, esplanades and car parks. In Cowes, water is expected to be high up slipways, potentially affecting Medina Road and the floating bridge area.
In East Cowes, sea water may be forced up through drains, causing minor disruption around Albany Road.
The Environment Agency says it is closely monitoring the situation and is advising residents to consider activating any flood protection products they may have in place.
