UPDATED: The Cowes Floating Bridge has once again run aground in East Cowes, resulting in the service being suspended this afternoon (Sunday).
The brand new, multi-million pound vessel ‘Floating Bridge No.6’ has come to rest off the main slipway on the East side of the River Medina in an almost side-on position. It further demonstrates the views of locals that the chains are too slack, allowing the vessel to be pulled around by the tide.
A ‘small’ passenger launch has been put in place. It is currently unknown when the service will be back in operation, but the tide is expected to flood in the next couple of hours.
‘This whole episode is a joke’ – that’s the word of one Island resident but is a feeling that is resonating among locals far and wide…
UPDATE @ 18:25 – The Isle of Wight Council has said that the Floating bridge will not be running tomorrow morning (Monday) as a precaution due to the ‘weather conditions’.
There will be a passenger launch in operation from 05:30.
