FIRST CLASS SINGING FOR WIGHT SATINS

SINGERS from the Wight Satin Ladies’ Barbershop Chorus headed home on a high note on Saturday after claiming a first and second place in their class at the annual Bournemouth Music Competition Festival.

In the chorus contest the group were awarded a Commended for their performance of two lovely songs from the ’70s, ‘If..’ and ‘California Dreaming’.

As the evening continued, two quartets from Wight Satins took part in the Barbershop Quartet class and won both first and second places.

The overall winners Island Edition were thrilled to be awarded the highest mark, Outstanding (which translates as 90+ points), closely followed by Steppin’ Out who were awarded a much deserved Distinction.

Jenny of Wight Satins said: “It was a brilliant day, in spite of high winds and the odd rain shower and we were pleased and proud to represent the Isle of Wight in Bournemouth again”.

Jenny added: “Wight Satin always has room for more singers. We’re especially hoping to find some more women with sultry, sexy deep voices to join our Bass section.

“Whatever your vocal range, why not come along to one of our rehearsals on a Thursday evening at Carisbrooke Primary School, Wellington Rd, Newport, and see what we’re about?

“We’re a friendly lot, and we welcome women singers of all ages”.
