VIDEO: Thousands of spectators enjoyed the sight and sound of fireworks at Arreton Barns yesterday (Tuesday) as the annual bonfire night celebrations returned to the rural craft village.
With rain and strong winds cancelling a number of displays and bonfires across the Island, it was touch and go as to whether the event would be held, with a backup date of 8th November pencilled in. Thankfully, the weather kept at bay for what was a cold but enjoyable evening with a large bonfire glowing in the dark, which was lit by a torch procession.
A 20-minute firework display followed the lighting of the bonfire and the burning of Guy Fawkes, albeit slightly later than scheduled.
Elsewhere on the Island, firework displays were held at Haylands Primary School in Ryde and at Yarmouth Harbour in the West Wight. In Ventnor, the Spyglass Inn pub held its annual display.
