Firefighters are tackling a property fire that has broken out on a street in the heart of Cowes this morning (Friday).
4 fire appliances – 2 from Ryde and 2 from Newport – and an Aerial Ladder Platform have been mobilised to Alexandra Road, off Bellevue Road, where a fire has developed within a residential address.
It was just before 08:40 that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the situation, with smoke seen billowing from the rear of the semi-detached Victorian property.
Crews have donned breathing apparatus and have entered the family home with hose reels. Water is being pulled from a nearby hydrant.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has an ambulance crew and operational commander in attendance, although details of injuries are currently unavailable.
UPDATE @ 09:29 – The fire has been brought under control, and crews are now withdrawing.
Positive pressure ventilation is being utilised to rid the last of the lingering smoke.
UPDATE @ 09:48 – It has been confirmed to Island Echo that an electrical fire is suspected to be the cause of the incident.
Neighbours were alerted to the situation thanks to working smoke alarms inside the property. Thankfully, no one was inside the address at the time.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is now starting to stand down with resources being released back to station.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has also stood down.
