UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at HMP Isle of Wight this afternoon (Sunday).
3 appliances – 2 from Newport and 1 from Cowes – were called to the Albany site off Parkhurst Road at just before 13:00.
All 3 appliances, the Incident Command Unit and a senior officer are currently on scene, with firefighters from Ryde sent to stand by at Newport Fire Station.
It is currently unclear what has sparked the alert at the category B prison.
UPDATE @ 13:41 – Fire crews have now left the prison and the incident has been closed.
It has been confirmed that a small cell fire prompted the response. The fire was extinguished by prison officers prior to the arrival of crews.
