Firefighters from Ventnor, Shanklin and Sandown are tackling a small flat fire above the Tesco Express shop in Ventnor Town Centre tonight (Friday).
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service mobilised 3 retained crews to the scene on the High Street at around 22:30.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and armed with a hose reel have entered the 2nd floor property, with positive pressure ventilation now being used to rid lingering smoke.
2 ambulances from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have responded to the incident and are currently checking over at least 1 casualty.
Southern Vectis buses are stuck in the one-way system around town as the road is currently blocked by the responding emergency services.
Tesco Express is unaffected and open as usual.
