FIRE CREWS RESPOND TO ROOF FIRE

fireyarmouth2UPDATED: Firefighters from Newport and Freshwater have been called to reports of a roof fire at a residential property in Yarmouth this afternoon (Wednesday).

Two appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to smoke coming from the roof of a property in Mill Road shortly before 14:00.

Two hose reels are being used to bring the fire under control at ‘Riverhouse’, which was only purchased by its new owners in March.

UPDATE @ 14:52 – The fire, which broke out on a house undergoing refurbishment works, has been brought under control and successfully extinguished.

Crews are making up ahead of returning to station.

This afternoon’s incident follows another call out for both Newport and Freshwater this morning when crews were called to a property in Colwell Road at just after 09:30. An external panel was alight, however safely removed from the building by firefighters.
