UPDATED: Firefighters are this afternoon (Tuesday) attending a reported house fire in Ventnor.
Three pumping appliances from Ryde, Newport and Shanklin were called to the incident on St Catherine’s Street in the town shortly before 11:50.
Breathing apparatus is being used by firefighters to locate the source of the blaze. Thankfully, all persons have been accounted for.
UPDATE @ 12:40 – One pumping appliance has now left the scene, indicating the situation is under control and is not as serious as first thought.
The source of the fire is understood to be an airing cupboard on the first floor.
The road has been closed by Police. Motorists are advised to find an alternative route.
