FIRE BREAKS OUT AT WETHERSPOONS

weatherspoonsfirerydeVIDEO: Three pumping appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have been called to Wetherspoons in Ryde this evening.

Two appliances from Ryde and one from Newport, alongside the Aerial Ladder Platform from Ryde, are currently attending the incident at the pub and restaurant chain in Union Street.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have entered the building. Island Echo understand a small fire has broke out at the popular pub, that is being tackled with hose reels.

Cross Street and Union Street have both been closed by Police this evening resulting in local buses and motorists being diverted via St Thomas’ Street.

weatherspoonsfireryde3UPDATE @ 00:00 – One appliance from Ryde Fire Station remains at the scene as we head into the early hours of Monday morning.

It is understood a fire broke out in the cellar area of the three-floored premises at around 23:00. A faulty carboniser is believed to be at fault.

No one has been injured in the incident.

Crews are expected to return to station within the next 10 minutes, with the road set to reopen by 00:30.
