41-year-old Emma Stafford has been fined by Magistrates after hitting a woman around the face with a glass bottle.
Earlier this year Police issued an appeal for information after a woman sustained facial injuries in an attack outside the Co-Op in Landguard Road, Shanklin. By mid-October, Stafford had been charged with the offence of assault by beating against Michelle May.
Stafford, previously of Medeway in Lake, appeared before Magistrates on 29th October and pleaded not guilty to the offence, but changed her plea to guilty when she appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court yesterday morning (Tuesday). She appeared via video link from HMP Bronzefield, where she has been remanded in custody on a separate matter.
Ann Smout, prosecuting, explained to the court that Stafford started shouting obscenities towards the victim outside the Co-Op store. Stafford then took out a bottle and struck May in the face, causing bruising and swelling. The 2 were known to each other.
Defending, Barry Arnett said that drink was involved on both sides. He made a point to the court that although Stafford had appeared in court several times, she last appeared for a violent offence in 1998.
The Crown Prosecution Service also brought a charge against Emma Stafford of disorderly conduct relating to a public order incident at Tesco Express in Lake on 28th July this year. The court heard that Stafford was upsetting customers with the language she was using, which included telling staff members to ‘fuck off’ repeatedly. She then picked up stock, including strawberries, before throwing them towards staff and customers, causing £8 worth of stock damage.
Magistrates fined Emma Stafford £270 for the assault and £120 for the disorderly conduct, as well as ordering her to pay £150 costs with a £39 surcharge. She was also handed a 2-year restraining order.
Stafford is to remain in prison on remand until a Crown Court hearing in early 2022.

sooner or later stafford will find that her degenerate lifestyle will take her health over the edge and she will begin the swift decent into an early grave. Ho hum.
She hasn’t been given a fine because she is on benefits so us tax payers have payed the fine not her. Lock her up and take her benefits away
s cumbags like her, need to made homeless and penniless and then see how she gets on
What a joke, slap on the wrist for a bottle round the head, no wonder people re offend
It appears that most repeat offenders do not appear to learn and reform themselves.
It also appears that the help that they are supposed to be offered is also not working.
So what is the answer, heavier sentences or something that actually makes them sit up and take notice and want to change.
This is why in the US benefits are paid with food stamps. So the drunks don’t spend it all on booze.
Here in the UK Fred, everything is so pathetic and antiquated. This Tory Government can’t get anything right. Way too soft on criminals. And a Home Secretary who talks all tough but delivers nothing, just like Boris Johnson.
But when Priti Patel tried to get tough with her officials she had to apologise to them and nearly lost her job
If it was a bloke that done that, they would throw away the key.
Women seem to get away with murder now days.
Best place for this b*tch. Throw away the key and don’t let her out. Benefits parasite.
Do you work? You seem to spend an awful amount of time commenting on a local paper
Not this vile low life chav again. Pig thick will never change. A long custodial sentence is the minimum this thing deserves.
I had the misfortune of living next door to her years ago, I had to go stay somewhere else due to her behaviour, drugs, loud music through the night, threats from her guests. She will never change, total career criminal and antisocial waste of space.
