The Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary at Wroxall has sadly lost Felicity ‘Flissy’, 1 of their favourite and most recognisable donkeys.
‘Miniature Mischief’ Felicity passed away on Monday (23rd January) during the early evening, with the farm team close, surrounded by donkey friends Bella, Wizzy, Angelica and Geraldine.
Felicity had been receiving veterinary treatment for some weeks and had been displaying an inconsistent heart rate, which kept bursting into a tachycardia (fast heartbeat). She had phases of seemingly being well, followed by periods where she was simply not herself.
Despite the best efforts of the sanctuary, they were unable to get to the cause of her illness. Suddenly, on Monday evening, Felicity deteriorated very quickly. With vets already on site, she was helped to peacefully pass away.
The exact nature of the cause of Felicity’s ill-health remains a mystery. The sanctuary will be carrying out a postmortem to find the exact cause of death.
The Isle of Wight Donkey sanctuary has written:
Felicity was in her twenties and had been at the sanctuary for over 10 years. She arrived at Wroxall with Geraldine and Angelica, as the only miniature donkeys at the sanctuary. All the miniatures were very popular, and supporters loved their unique characteristics and personalities.
Felicity was an in demand outreach donkey, and she spent lots of times enjoying the fuss and attention of primary school children, particularly at Christmas time, when she accompanied Bella on a number of Nativity Play outings. Felicity was affectionate, endearing and loved her life with her friends.
All of our donkeys end their days here at the sanctuary, but when a donkey passes ‘before her time’ it is especially hard for the team to deal with. A special thank you therefore to all the members of staff and volunteers who stayed to help Felicity last night. Their professionalism is a tribute to the standards we set here.
Please don’t hold on to the pain of last night but remember the joy and happiness that Felicity brought to others, during her happy life.
RIP Little Flissy (Felicity)

RIP Felicity, no more pain now Sweetie
Very sad news.
R.I.P Felicity
She was a lovely donkey and will be sadly missed. All the donkeys at the sanctuary are lovely, our guides had a lovely day there a while ago. Very sad
