williamwatsonPolice have today (Thursday) named the victim of Tuesday’s fatal road traffic collision as William Watson, 93, of Golden Ridge, Freshwater.

Mr Watson, known to his friends and family as Bill, was involved an the RTC on Middle Road near Tapnell Farm shortly after 08:30 on Tuesday morning. Watson was driving his blue Ford Fiesta towards Newport when it collided with a school bus and a VW Polo, driven by a 54-year-old woman, as reported by Island Echo.

Although airlifted to Southampton General Hospital by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Ambulance, Mr Watson died of his injuries.

Family and freinds have today said:

“He was a loving father to two children, seven grand children and seven great grandchildren.

“Bill enjoyed good health and a happy retirement on the Isle of Wight when he and his late wife Ivy, moved here in 1993 from London.

“He will be sadly missed by all that knew him.”

The second driver involved, a 54-year-old woman, sustained multiple fractures in the crash and remains in a stable condition at St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
