Asa Hewison joined Esplanade as a Year 10 work placement student from the Isle of Wight Studio School in 2016, but fast forward 5 years and he has now qualified as a full-time technician – one of the youngest in the UK.
When he was just 15, Asa helped out on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. He was keen to learn about engines but was unsure about his career direction. His placement helped him to discover his passion for cars and decided that this was the career path for him. Once he had passed his GCSE’s, Esplanade was pleased to offer him an apprenticeship based on dedication and enthusiasm.
Asa’s apprenticeship at Esplanade saw him working, training and learning 5 days a week on site with support from his colleagues. He also had the added benefit of taking home a modest salary.
Now, 5 years since Asa began his journey with Cowes-based Esplanade, he has qualified as a Volkswagen Technician.
Matthew Williams, Esplanade Aftersales Manager, has said:
“Asa has worked hard to gain his certification and is now one of the youngest fully qualified Volkswagen technicians in the UK. He is a valued member of the team, and we hope he will continue to be so for many years to come”.
Well done Asa. Keep up the good work
