EPP maintained their 100% record in Div 1 of the Leslies Motors Indoor Cricket League following their 2 wicket win against previously undefeated Brading at Cowes Enterprise College last Sunday.
Batting first, Brading scored 122-4 (Alan Johns 26 not out) but this was not enough to overcome the young EPP side as they made 128-4 in reply (Ben Attrill 26 not out) to cement their place at the top of the table.
Also in Div 1, Shanklin & Godshill 1 (134-4) secured their second win of the season by overcoming Prison Officers (128 all out). Simon Wratten (44) was the main contributor to the Officers’ score but 35 not out from Steve Egerton-Read and 26 from Nathan Moore saw Shanklin & Godshill 1 home.
The other Div 1 game saw Ryde (124-5) defeat Northwood (80-5) by 44 runs. Ryde’s Mark Oatley continued his consistent form with the bat by hitting 30 and, although Liam Roberts made 24 for Northwood in reply, Stuart Robertson’s tight bowling (3-23) gave Ryde the points.
2 games took place in Div 2 on Sunday and it saw the closest finish of the evening with Island Bakeries narrowly defeating Cowes by 3 runs in a high scoring match. The Bakers thought they had enough runs on the board after not out scores from Matt Webb (34), Tom Wells (29) and Kieron Annis (28) took their side to 153-3. However, Cowes fought back hard thanks to Josh Rice (49), Jason Heap (35 not out) and Ciaran Saltzer(33) with Cowes (150-5) only falling just short on the last ball.
Newport hit the highest score of the evening (191-3) to beat the IW Disability Team. 28 not out from both Mike Watson and Paul Attrill, together with 30 from Guy Wells, set the basis for the Newport sore. The Disability Team again batted with determination but despite not out scores from Matt Rice (26) and Jayden Franklyn (27) it was not enough as they closed on 100-3.
This coming Sunday’s (2nd Dec) fixtures include:
Div 1: Brading v Shanklin & Godshill 1 (19:00), EPP v Prison Officers (21:00).
Div 2: Cowes v IW Disability Team (17:00), Newport v Shanklin & Godshill 2 (18:00), Island Bakeries v Ryde School (20:00).
