Fresh issues with Red Eagle’s aft main engine have led to the cancellation of a number of Red Funnel sailings this afternoon (Wednesday).
The 15:00 and 18:00 sailings from Southampton have been pulled, alongside the 16:30 and 19:30 sailings from East Cowes.
The 17:30 from East Cowes is also likely to be delayed by 1 hour.
Initially, the cross-Solent operator cancelled sailings due to ‘unplanned maintenance to a critical item of equipment’.
Now, Red Funnel says the cancellations are to facilitate essential repairs to Red Eagle’s aft engine.
It is unclear at this early stage if there will be further disruption to services today, or in the coming days.
UPDATE @ 16:44 – Red Funnel has now confirmed a number of sailings have been cancelled on Thursday morning.
The 05:00, 08:00 and 11:00 timetabled sailings from Southampton have been cancelled, alongside the 06:30, 09:30 and 12:30 sailings from East Cowes.

Would the last person leaving the Island, ‘Please turn off the lights’. But please be aware due to cancellations there will be delays, on Red funnel, Wightlink and Hover travel as such it could be another 50-60 years for everyone to be evacuated,” we apologise for any inconvenience “.
Red Funnel almost independently if not for (Sh..e Link) crippling tourists with prices,or seriously asking how much can I get for a kidney on Black market, to sail over a very small stretch of water, now really peeing Islanders and tourists off alike “sorry you paid sky high prices and no you cannot sail in the booking you requested”instead of paying shareholders with borrowed money maybe a new ferry should have been in Construction four or five years ago!!
Would the last person leaving the Island please turn off the lights. However due to unforeseen circumstances and delays it could take 60-70 years for everyone to leave, Red funnel, Wightlink and Hover travel ” Apologise for any inconvenience caused “.
The gift that keeps giving..what a turd company…can’t wait for their slower less carrying electric red jet if you can call it that…
They run a better Dinghy service from France to UK
much more reliable, service is 24/7 365 days a year
Sounds like a lack of holidaymakers is the real
reason.
Can we at some point , have a professionally managed , efficient ferry company that serves the island , and not it’s shareholders? The damage done by this shower of people with no interest in the world but their bank balances is beyond reasonable comprehension. NATIONALISE.
And on it goes , Red Funnel please get your act together
Utterly shameful
