Emergency services are in attendance near Shanklin’s main Co-Op store this afternoon (Friday) following a collision.
Firefighters from the nearby Shanklin Fire Station are currently on the scene on Carter Avenue alongside officers from Hampshire Constabulary. Attendance from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is also expected.
The retained Shanklin fire crew is on scene providing scene safety, in part due to fuel that is said to be leaking from the vehicle.
Southern Vectis has tweeted to announce that delays on its routes 2 and 3 are expected due to the incident, with buses unable to serve the Clarendon Road, Co-Op or Green Lane stops in both directions.
UPDATE @ 14:51 – Both Carter Avenue and Landguard Road have now been fully cleared by emergency crews following the incident, which has seen a white coloured Kia Picanto collide with an unknown object.
The airbags of the vehicle have deployed, with significant front-end damage being caused to the 5-door hatchback.
The male driver of the vehicle is currently being tended to by a medical professional.
Shanklin’s retained appliance has now been stood down and returned the short distance to it’s station.

Picanto collide with an unknown object?
Must be the invisible man in his invisible car !
By the damage i would add it must have been a sizable object to cause that damage & set the airbags off, hope the driver is ok.
