Police and fire crews are attending a road traffic collision on Newport Road in Lake this morning (Monday).
The incident has occurred outside the Central convenience store at the junction with Lamorbery Road.
Island Echo is told that 2 cars – a Vauxhall Meriva and a Ford S-Max – have been involved in the crash, which occurred at around 11:30. It is said that the handbrake was not applied to one of the vehicles, resulting in it rolling backwards into the road.
The driver tried to stop the vehicle but fell.
1 fire appliance from Shanklin is currently blocking the road and is in attendance in the interests of safety.
Traffic is building in the area and motorists are being diverted via Manor Road.
It is understood that an ambulance has been declined by the injured party.
UPDATE @ 12:05 – Newport Road has now re-opened with the vehicle recovered by a private agent.
A third vehicle – a Rover – has also sustained damage in the incident.

“The handbrake was not applied”
So someone needs to redo driving lessons and retake their test so they remember basic driving etiquette?
It’s in the road, hardly the same as leaving the handbrake off on your own drive aka private property.
All the people downvoting me would have done the same.
No wonder there’s so many bad drivers out there…
