An emergency road closure has been put in place on Great Preston Road in Ryde, which is likely to remain in place for over 2 weeks.
Sewage inspection and repair work has been taking place on the busy stretch of road under traffic lights this week however, due to a collapse sewer, the decision has been taken this morning (Wednesday) to close the road in both directions until approximately 16:00 on Friday 8th May.
The work is being carried out by Fitzsimmons Dynorod for Southern Water at the junction of Carlton Road.
Southern Vectis say their Route 2 buses will divert from Westridge via Marlborough Road and back along to Harding Road, but will not serve Great Preston Road for the duration of the works.
The section of road between Harding Road and Nicholson Road has been subject to numerous sewer-related works over the past 18-24 months.
