UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, Police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are responding to a road traffic collision on Halletts Shute near Yarmouth this afternoon (Saturday).
Island Echo understands a car has rolled and come to rest off the carriageway near to the junction with Pixley Hill. The crash occurred at just before 16:00.
Fire crews from Freshwater and Newport are en-route to the scene, alongside an ambulance and ambulance officer. Freshwater’s Community First Responder is already on scene.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area as the road has been closed in both directions.
UPDATE @ 16:13 – A Rescue Tender from Newport Fire Station has been mobilised to the incident, alongside 2 duty officers from Ryde.
Fire crews are now on scene and are working to extricate a female from the vehicle.
Southern Vectis say Route 7 buses and the Needles Breezer will both divert via Wilmingham Lane, Middle Road and Afton Road in both directions.
UPDATE @ 16:56 – A woman has been extricated from her vehicle by fire crews and is now being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are preparing to stand down from the incident.
Recovery of the vehicle has been arranged and the road remains closed.
UPDATE @ 17:40 – Halletts Shute has now reopened to traffic according to Southern Vectis, who say buses are to resume a normal route.
