THE work of the Ecoisland Partnership Community Interest Company has been recognised at the 2012 BusinessGreen Leaders Awards, with their founder David Green being named as Sustainability Executive of the Year at a prestigious awards ceremony in London.
Ecoisland, the Community Initiative that aims to make the Isle of Wight the first sustainable region in Britain, was shortlisted following a nomination from one of their Global Partners. Now in their second year, the Business Green Leaders Awards celebrates leading businesses and individuals from across the green economy, highlighting how these pioneers are blazing a path for others to follow.
The Ecoisland team, under the leadership of the aptly named CEO David Green have achieved major success since the project’s launch in 2011, and are delighted with the award.
Vice President Jeremy Waitt said “His relentless passion, integrity and commitment to the community is a source of constant amazement to myself and the team. His talent for getting things done, and done well, is masterful to watch and be part of. His respect for his team and the culture he breads within the organisation is empowering. In my opinion, David is a visionary, seeing a brighter future for generations to come both on the Isle of Wight and beyond. He finds ways to facilitate this through meticulous planning and building powerful relationships with stakeholders. Sustainability offers many businesses a brighter future but is dynamic and fast moving, David’s entrepreneurship is one of the keys to unlocking the potential of a new way in the World – bridging gaps and making Ecoisland the hub between science, engineers, politics and communities. In reality, if David Green didn’t exist we would need to invent him!”
The award categories cover every aspect of the green economy from transport to energy and buildings to legislation, providing green firms with the opportunity to highlight their many achievements. Winners were selected by a panel of expert judges, including some of the UK’s most high profile green business commentators and winners from last year’s inaugural awards – including the 2011 Leader of the Year and MD of Island based Vestas Technology UK, Rob Sauven.
Success at the BusinessGreen Leaders Awards represents one of the most coveted accolades available for companies operating in the fast expanding green economy, and confirms Ecoisland as one of the leading sustainability projects in the UK.
David Green, CEO & Founder of the Ecoisland Partnership CIC, is elated. He said: “Ecoisland represents a community taking its destiny into its own hands. As a very small team, we couldn’t have got to where we are today without the partnership approach, the support of local people and businesses, and the on-going commitment of our National and Global Partners. This really is sustainability in motion, and I am delighted to accept the award on behalf of Ecoisland.”
