An East Cowes man was arrested after he allegedly attempted to rob a man at knifepoint in Newport Town Centre yesterday (Saturday).
Police were called to South Street in Newport just before 14:00 on Saturday 4th January, following reports of an attempted robbery.
A man in his 60s reported that a man had demanded money from him whilst holding a knife. He left the area quickly having not handed anything over and was not hurt.
Officers attended and an investigation was launched.
As part of enquiries, a 46 year-old man from East Cowes was detained outside TK Maxx in Newport and arrested on suspicion of robbery, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and theft from a shop.
He has been released on conditional bail until Saturday 5th April whilst enquiries are ongoing.
